Artemis
Non-Invasive Regenerative Therapy
Quality Healing for Better Performance
NRT originates in the United States. After 10 years of research and development, a laser therapy has been designed for consistent treatment and rehabilitation of equine injuries.
Once considered career ending injuries are being met with renewed confidence and optimism.
Horses that have received laser therapy show lower incidence of injury recurrence after having returned to the sport.
The Artemis NRT has proven to be successful for treatment of tendon, ligament and bone lesions, inflammation of the joint, muscle ache and nerve damage. This therapy is completely painless.
NRT’s results have proven to be very positive for:
- Repair of ligament and tendon lesions
- Reduction of scar tissue within and around tendons
- Normalization of muscle fibers and function
- Analgesia
- Anti-inflammatory processes
- Collagen production
- Cell proliferation
Indications:
Acute and chronic pain, inflammation, scar tissue, lameness
What is Artemis?
Artemis is a device that uses a process of delivering, specific pulses of high power, but low volume, light energy in the appropriate wavelength and waveform, to tissues that need to heal.
How does it work?
These perfectly tuned pulses mechanically cause the cytoskeleton of the cell to signal the nucleus in the same way a healthy cell would, by bypassing the chemical pathway blocked by inflammation and “tricking the cell” to “turn on” the cell cycle. This causes the cells to create proteins and reproduce. As new cells are created they express factors that influence the cells around them to “turn on.”
The result is a healing cascade that way that was previously thought to muscle, bone, and many other tissue types can be regenerated non-invasively, with a consistent treatment schedule.
For Artemis to be effective:
- The energy must be of the right wavelength
- The right waveform
- The right power and pulse frequency
- Delivered to the right area
Why Power and Wavelength Matter
POWER: Power is important to allow the control of heat and energy as both effect the cells. Artemis is incredibly powerful, using 70 kilowatts of peak power with nanosecond micro pulsing, allowing us to deliver precise amounts of energy to cells.
WAVELENGTH: Artemis employs 1064 nm wavelength, which is not readily absorbed by hemoglobin or melanin, enabling us to reach deeper penetration into structures, which other devices can’t reach, such as proximal suspensory ligaments.”
How is laser therapy performed?
After the veterinarian has diagnosed the horse, a laser and training plan can be designed in consultation with the owner and the rehabilitation expert.
A standard laser course takes 4 weeks. The course can be extended if necessary.
Another possibility is to bring in the horse for laser treatment and to take it back home afterwards.
This is possible after consultation with the rehabilitation expert. The injury that needs lasering is discussed and a plan can be drawn up. Naturally the diagnosis needs to be clear and the areas to be lasered have to be specifically determined.
Depending on the injury and any secondary damage the horse might suffer from, laser therapy can also be combined with other treatment methods. NRT for example can be combined with cryotherapy and magnetic therapy or additional taping after the laser course. You can find more details on cryotherapy on the website.
If a combination is advised, this is again discussed among the vet, the owner and the rehabilitation expert. The additional treatments can be performed at our premises.
